Certificate IV in Music

National Code CUS40101

Purpose                                   
To provide students with a wide range of knowledge and skills to be able to maximize their income, as a performer and/or composer, along with support skills in technology and business sectors.

Outcome
At the completion of The Certificate IV in Music, students will be able to:

  • Apply copyright, OHS and industry knowledge to build their career

Depending on elective units taken:

  • Build technical and performance skills for amateur/semi-professional gigs
  • Demonstrate improvisation and auditioning skills
  • Perform as a soloist and/or in a group
  • Compose, arrange and read music.

Structure
To attain the Certificate IV in Music achieve 14 units; all units in Group A, seven units in Group B and four others. No more than three of the units selected from Group B should have counted previously towards the Certificate III in Music.
Two of the other units should be drawn from Group B and/or the unit bank for Certificate IV. The remaining two units may be drawn from the unit bank for Certificate IV and from another endorsed industry training package at Certificate IV level.

Nominal Duration
The Certificate IV in Music consists of 108 hours in Group A, 99-265 hours in Group B, plus four other units.

Competency based learning and assessment allows for the adjustment of training and assessment dependant upon the needs of different students.
